Ayeila Daneshmend
Ayeila is an admirable student who is currently pursuing her PhD in Neuroscience at Carleton University under the supervision of Dr. Robyn McQuaid and Dr. Kim Hellemans (Carleton University). Her project is focused on understanding how stressful life experiences alter the expression of our DNA in ways that can contribute to depression and suicidality among young adults. Ayeila takes a holistic approach, combining the study of psychosocial factors with the identification of biological markers, in the hope of advancing prevention and intervention strategies that can save lives.
Ayeila received her Bachelor of Science Honours in Neuroscience and Mental Health at Carleton University. In her 4th year, she completed her Honours thesis with Dr. Argel Aguilar-Valles (Carleton University) where she studied antidepressant mechanisms of ketamine in a project examining how eIF4E-binding proteins mediate depressive behaviors in mice exposed to chronic variable stress.

Outside of school, Ayeila learns different coding languages to apply to statistical software, and loves fashion.
